Remodeling & Rebuilding a Craftsman dream home in Pasadena

Bringing a 1911 Craftsman home back to life
This wonderful Craftsman Home was originally built in 1911 and most of the rooms were still in their original condition. The three basic systems all had to be renovated and up-graded: the electrical, HVAC (heating, ventilation & air conditioning), and the plumbing. The house was deteriorating, but fortunately the new owners were able to purchase it in time to breathe new life into its old soul. The original floor plan had 4000 square feet, and after the two-story addition was built, 1000 square feet was added to the first floor and 1000 to the second floor.
The first floor addition and alteration received a new Great Room consisting of a Kitchen, Butler's Pantry, Breakfast Area, Family Room, Study Cubby, Craft Room and Animal Room. We remodeled the existing Bedroom and Bathroom, customizing it to the client's exact specifications. We also remodeled the existing Powder Room and made it larger.

The second floor addition and alteration changed the original Master Bedroom and became their daughter's room. In their son’s room, a three-quarter Bathroom was added. The original second floor Bathroom that was shared by two other Bedrooms was converted into a Laundry Room. A new Master Suite and Library was added to the second floor. The Master Suite consists of a Bedroom and luxury Bathroom, two walk-in closets, a Sitting Area and an Exercise Room.
The exterior remodeling included a new three-quarter Pool Bathroom behind the Garage and a new pool with slide, waterfall and spa. We also added an outdoor Kitchen and covered patio that could seat 100 people.

The existing Front porch had been sagging from an earlier addition on the old Master Suite. The Bedroom wall had been extended three feet onto the Entry Porch and this extra weight was causing the Porch roof to sag. We opened up the existing Porch roof and installed some beams to support that exterior Bedroom wall. The original slab of the Front Porch was all cracked and also sagging. We removed the existing concrete and re-poured it to match the original. We built a new Arbor swing to support the old original Wisteria Vine. This vine has grown all the way around the house and for many years this home has been known as the Wisteria House. This was quite the Dream room addition and alteration project.
