Pollard creates superb living and working areas that provide lasting pleasure
Above Left: In this older Spanish Colonial home in Los Angeles, we installed a Custom Coffered Ceiling to add formality to this library/living room shown at left above. A can light at each point where the beams cross provides beautiful, unobtrusive lighting for the entire room. Each square recess has 4" crown molding at the ceiling line and a Greek Labyrinth molding under the crown.
Above Right: The base cabinet doors include panel overlays called linenfold, in between the base cabinets is a post base capped with a rosette called Acanthus rectangular. At the counter level is a wood shelf supported by a Plain Corbel. All the cabinetry is made from Mahogany.  The old world moldings were supplied by Enkeboll Designs. These moldings are fabricated, touched up by hand carvers and hand sanders.
Right: The Breakfast Room includes a gothic arch with a custom china cabinet with granite countertop, glass shelves and interior lighting, recessed into the arch; all the materials have been fabricated out of cherry to match the existing table and chairs. This room also features a bay window with granite countertop supported by four Oakleaf corbels. Under the countertop is a wainscot paneling that continues around the room. The Cherry wainscot includes Oakleaf panel overlays and is capped with an Oakleaf molding. All the moldings again were supplied by Enkeboll Designs. Note the flat panel TV with built-in surround sound home theater to the right of the china cabinet.

Above: This exterior patio was taking a beating from the weather, 40% of the roof area was draining in this area causing a lot of damage to the existing French doors. Water was also leaking into the basement ceiling. We decided to enclose this area into a Sun Room. A new steel stair system with precast concrete treads was installed to replace the old wooden stairs. The wrought iron railing was saved and altered to work with the new system.
Above: This photo shows another view of the breakfast room, with an elegant bay window enhanced by exquisite paneling and ornately-carved corbels supporting the shelf underneath the windows.

Above Left and Right, Below Right: This new dream Kitchen features Cherry wood cabinetry, under cabinet lighting, granite countertops and backsplash. There is a bay window over the primary kitchen sink. The sink is a Franke stainless steel. The Kitchen Aide dishwasher has matching cherry wood panels and the microwave is built into a wall cabinet. Adjoining the Kitchen is a galley Butler’s Pantry with matching cabinetry and countertops. A pair of leaded glass doors was included to show off the family’s crystal. On both sides of the opening to the Butler’s Pantry is the Sub-Zero Refrigerator and some recessed display shelves. The walls that were not covered with cabinetry we installed ceramic tile to the ceiling.

Above Left: The backyard barbecue and pool area needed some protection from the sun. The decision was to install a free standing trellis with a custom eave detail.

Above: The existing Breakfast Nook was originally built in about 1910. The plaster on the walls and ceiling was in bad shape, there was no insulation and the electrical was made of old knob and tube wiring—so we decided to strip the walls and ceiling down to the studs. With the walls and ceiling open we could make the necessary improvements. We added a flat screen TV and stereo system with built-in speakers in the walls and ceiling. We installed new lighting for the room including wall sconces with dimmer switches. The photo above left shows master craftsman Mario and helper Eddie installing the necessary plywood backing for the new panel wainscot. The upper left and right photos show how we can bend 1/4" drywall around the Gothic arch and the coved ceiling.

Above: The upper left photo shows the before picture of the open-air sun porch. The lower left photo shows sun porch under construction. The new clay tile roof has been installed. The new wood turn post were custom fabricated to match the existing house. The middle photo is another sun porch that we enclosed on the front of the house. We installed new wood casement window supplied by Taylor Brothers. The lower right photo is a Powder Room off the main entry. We saved the original medicine cabinet and had it re-silvered. We installed two new wall sconces. The ceramic tile wainscot and floor tile was supplied by Mission Tile West, and was installed on the diagonal and included a ceramic tile base.
